The Swedish Interactive Institute has been working on a project to redesign everyday items (lamps, tiles, window shades) in order to increase awareness of how energy is being used. Some of the projects are
-energy curtain
During the day, the shade can be drawn to the extent that people choose to collect sunlight and, during the evening, the collected energy is expressed as a glowing pattern on the inside of the shade
-flower lamp
The lamp ‘blooms’ – changing its shape and thus lit expression – when energy consumption in a household has been low for some time, thus reflecting the cycles of local energy use.
